Why should I get my documents stamped?

The Stamp Act, 1891 makes the stamping of all documents which are covered by the Act compulsory. In addition, there are serious restrictions on the use that can be made of unstamped documents. For example, they cannot be used as evidence in most court proceedings other than criminal proceedings. There are also other restrictions which can affect a person’s title to property if a document is not stamped. For example, before you can be registered as the owner of your house, the document transferring title to you must be properly stamped.
